Chairman of the ruling St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Party, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, has slammed the opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) for issuing a press release from its Secretariat alleging that he intends to quit the Labour Party.

Speaking in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly on Thursday morning, Dr. Harris, Minister of Finance, International Trade, Industry and Consumer Affairs, labelled the article which was posted on the SKNVIBES.COM Website as “a complete fabrication, malicious in its falsehood and it reflects the concoction of a depraved mind.”

Dr. Harris noted that the story headlined: “˜PAM welcomes Minister Harris’ decision to quit Labour Party should Douglas continue as Leader’ “makes several false, frivolous and malicious claims.”

He referred to the claims that he is about to resign or has so indicated and that there is a dispute between the Prime Minister and himself regarding the financial measures outlined in Dr. Douglas’ statement to the nation on Monday night.

“I wish for the record to fully and absolutely disassociate myself from the innuendos, and falsehoods being peddled in the said article,” said Dr. Harris.

“I reaffirm my complete and immovable support for the Labour Party, its philosophy, programmes, policies, its leader and leadership at level both of the Party and the Government,” said Dr. Harris.

He declared: “I say clearly that I have no intention of resigning from the party, and have never expressed such an intention.”

Dr. Harris, first elected to represent the people of St. Christopher 7 in 1993 recalled he was born and raised in the Labour Party.

“I have given my best service to this venerable Party as a lay member of party since my early youth and as one of its Executive Officers of many years standing, not only at the level of the Executive but as the Deputy Co-ordinator of the National Young Labour Group. I have given my service to this party as a candidate, as a Parliamentarian and as a Member of Labour Party Government,” said Dr. Harris, who said that it has been an honour and privilege to serve the Labour Party, the constituency and country.

“My credentials are among the finest and they are incontestable. I cannot easily be dislodged from Labour Party because as our First National Leader, the Right Excellent Robert Bradshaw would say:

“We are Labour and Labour is We!” My roots in the Labour Party are long and deep.’
