Charlestown Nevis (January 11, 2007)
Nevis’ Premier and Minister of Education, the Hon. Joseph Parry on Wednesday 10th January, 2007 gave the assurance of his Administration’s commitment to transform the education system on the island. He was at the time speaking to the Department of Information prior to his visit to the Gingerland Secondary School.
“This week, as Minister of Education, I am visiting the two high schools, the Charlestown Secondary School and the Gingerland Secondary School,” he said as he gave an overview of the visit. “Basically, we would outline our policies to the teachers, our programmes and we would also discuss what input they could make in education, how they felt about education and how they felt about themselves in education.”
The Premier, who was accompanied by Education Advisor, Mrs. Christine Springette, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Elvin Bailey, Principal Education Officer, Mrs. Jennifer Hodge and Education Officer with responsibility for the Secondary Schools, Mr. Joseph Wiltshire, noted that the team had a very healthy discussion with the principal and staff of the Charlestown Secondary School the day before and that they were hoping to have a similar exercise at the Gingerland Secondary School.
The Education Minister in keeping with his Administration’s thrust to develop a comprehensive education policy that would take the island of Nevis forward, said they received a lot of input from the teachers on a variety of subjects, which he observed would be very useful in the development of policies for education.
