Overseas Based Nevisians Help Health Services At Home

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 15, 2007)
A group of Nevisians living in the United States of America made another meaningful contribution to the development of Nevis recently, when they donated a EC$5,000 cheque to the Ministry of Health for use at the Alexandra Hospital.

Mrs. Vicki Anslyn Pemberton, Vice President of the Hearts and Hands for Nevis, an organisation based in New York, made the presentation to Mrs. Jocelyn Liburd Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health in the presence of Mrs. Veta Morton Hospital Administrator on the grounds of the Alexandra Hospital on Thursday January 11, 2007.

On receipt of the cheque, Mrs. Liburd thanked the organisation for the gift and disclosed that the funds would be used towards the purchase of a much needed piece of equipment at the hospital’s Lab.

She regarded the organisation as being a good friend to Nevis because of the many contributions it had made to the island in the past.Meantime, Mrs Pemberton said that her organisation continued to find ways to impact the lives of Nevisians at home and abroad and to contribute to the development of Nevis.
Nine years ago and most of its funds came from two annual fund raising activities.

Last weekend, the organisation hosted its 8th annual luncheon and the second event will be hosted later in the year in July.  She said the group’s Family Day during the summer brought together Nevisians from various states in the United States and Canada.

During the luncheon, the group usually paid tribute to an honouree who had given back to Nevis from a humanitarian stand point. There is also an invited guest speaker both come from Nevis. At this year’s Luncheon Mrs Irma Johnson was honoured while the key note speaker was Mr. Pearlivan Wilkin who addressed the issue of education on Nevis
