Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves said Friday his visit to St. Kitts – Nevis this weekend to speak at the 77th Annual National Conference is in his capacity as the Political Leader of the ruling St. Vincent Unity Labour Party.

“This is a free Caribbean. Of course they are going to say that Ralph has come here to meddle. I am not coming to meddle. I am just coming to give solidarity and support to (Prime Minister Hon. Dr.) Denzil Douglas and his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party,” said Dr. Gonsalves on WINNFM’s Breakfast Show.

“I am not coming to defend them. I am coming to support them (Labour). I am coming to support them. They (Labour Party) can defend themselves,” said Prime Minister Gonsalves, adding: “I am hoping that Denzil and the Labour Party win the (upcoming general) election.”

Dr. Gonsalves said his message to the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party delegates is going to be along the theme of the Conference “these are serious times for serious people.”

“Politics is not a branch of the entertainment industry and we don’t need entertainers. We need serious leaders. It’s a simple message,” said Prime Minister Gonsalves.

Chairman of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and Minister of Finance, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris said Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has been a most reliable friend and comrade of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

“We are pleased at this particular time of heightened political activity and mobilisation that we could count on a leader from another Caribbean country to share solidarity with us and promote our vision for the development of the country,” said Minister Harris.

He said that Dr. Gonsalves is eminently qualified as a popular regional leader, a respected academic, an economist and political scientist.
