Annual Special Olympics Caribbean Meeting

Local representatives from St. Kitts and Nevis will join delegates from around the region in discussing ways to strengthen the impact of Special Olympics.
This will be among issues raised at the Annual Special Olympics Caribbean Business Meeting slated for April 24 and 25, 2009 at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel.
National Director of Special Olympics, Clarice Cotton, told SKNIS that representatives from 18 member countries in the French and English speaking Caribbean will attend the conference. The Managing Director of the Special Olympics North American region, Bob Gobrecht, will also attend the meeting.
A training programme for coaches and board members will be reviewed. Additionally, an agreement is expected to be signed, strengthening the cooperation and relationship between the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and Special Olympics.
“Over the past year, the Government has been extremely supportive of Special Olympics and has contributed significantly to its growth and development which has had a positive impact on the programme and athletes,” said Ms. Cotton. She singled out the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Sam Condor and Minister of State for Sports Honourable Richard Skerritt for their steadfast support.
Minister Skerritt is expected to open the conference.
The 15-member board of representatives will convene on April 22 and 23, prior to the start of the business meeting.
