St. Kitts and Nevis‘ Minister of Technology, the Hon. Glenn Phillip, has unveiled his ministry’s plans to enhance the Government’s Wide Area Network (GWAN) digitally connecting all government offices.

During this week’s Cabinet Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, the technology minister further explained that an expanded government wide area network would facilitate the improvement of the functioning of the public sector by promoting standardization and integration of business processes across the sector.

Minister of Information, Sen. the  Hon. Nigel Carty informed Cabinet there would be more effective deployment of computer applications such as accounting systems, document management systems and statistical and information management systems, all necessary for the attainment of high levels of productivity and acceptable management standards.

Minister Phillip informed the Cabinet of Ministers that his ministry was obtaining consultancy services that would help to establish the business case for the expansion of the government wide area network, and that the result of such would assist in the access of grant and other funding to finance the building of the GWAN.

“Various government ministries have already participated in providing information about their internal operations to the consultant who will perform an analysis that will drive the implementation of the GWAN,” said Minister Carty.

He noted that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis believes that the tools of technology must be deloyed at all levels ““ in education and in administration ““ to improve effectiveness and efficiency within the public sector.

“It is for this reason that the decision was made to distribute laptops to secondary school students and to install an educational network, EduNet, soon to be completed,” said Mr. Carty, who is also the Minister of Education.
