The government of St. Kitts – Nevis has granted a conditional tax concession to hotels on both islands.
In order to qualify for the tax concession new hotels on the islands will be required to support local farmers and artists by regularly purchasing local foods and handicraft items.
In announcing the conditions, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas said the move is in support of the country’s agriculture sector which has been on an upward swing.
Peanut production has doubled from 64,000 pounds in 2006 to 128,000 pounds this year.
Meanwhile crops such as cabbage and potatoes increased by 43 and 15 per cent respectively, while carrots and onions also increased by 15 per cent.
