With the 2014-2015 school year fast approaching, teachers are being equipped with the proper tools to stimulate young minds through annual summer workshops.

The August 26 to 28 workshops are held every year by the Ministry of Education. This year’s theme is Advancing Education through Standards of Excellence.

Education Minister the Hon. Nigel Carty stated that the training of teachers is ongoing and is of top priority to ensure that they are up to speed with current and relevant education practices. He noted that these best practices can be achieved through positivity.

“As we turn a page to the new and eventful chapter of our educational journey, the academic year 2014-2015, we look forward with great expectation, confident in ourselves collectively and individually to meet the challenges of modern day education.”

Featured speaker Personal Development Consultant Dr. Lennox Sealey is centering his presentations around solutions to the Challenges of Leadership and Motivation in Our Schools Today. He noted that persons tend to place a significant amount of attention to problems rather than solutions and he seeks to change that throughout the three-day workshops.

“We have to stop spending 85 percent of the time talking about the problem and 15 percent of the time looking at the solution and switch it around,” Dr. Sealey explained. “We only need 15 percent to figure out what it is… So therefore we have to talk about what we can do in schools to have children thinking about solutions and thinking success.”

Some topics to be covered include Re-mapping the St. Kitts and Nevis Education System, Building a St. Kitts and Nevis Model and Developing Personal Vision.
