Over the next two months, the Department of Statistics, within the Ministry of Sustainable Development, will conduct surveys to aid in collecting labour force data in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Director of Statistics Carlton Phipps gave an overview of the survey, stating what will take place during the months of October and November.
“The survey is designed to collect labour force data on persons ages 15 and over,” he said. “The main objective of this study is to obtain relevant information on labour force characteristics and trends, as well as produce several indicators such as labour force participation rate, employment and unemployment rate.”
According to the director, data collection will be carried out through the use of questionnaires that will be administered via face-to-face interviews. These surveys will be carried out through random selection of households, by persons within the general public who were trained by the Statistics Department.
Mr. Phipps mentioned that this initiative is being undertaken by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis in collaboration with the Organization for Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Secretariat and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Persons are kindly asked to offer their fullest cooperation, as all information collected will be kept in the strictest confidence.
The survey is expected to run from Monday, October 14, 2013 through Saturday, November 23, 2013.
