A Great Time Will Be Had By All

Just one month after receiving an award for “contribution to tourism and hospitality on Nevis,” Mr. Randy Jeffers expressed delight in being associated with St. Kitts-Nevis’ National Carnival celebrations, dubbed “Sugar Mas 40:40.”

With 40 days of exciting activities scheduled, the Nevisian entrepreneur had secured the hosting of the lone Nevis-based activity: Sugar Mas Comes to Nevis. The heavily advertised event is scheduled for Dec. 4 at Lime Beach Bar on Pinney’s Beach.

In a televised interview with the Department of Information, Mr. Jeffers revealed the show’s lineup, highlighting that while there would be musical entertainment, the major highlights would be the fashion show and calypso tent.

“I know of approximately 150 persons who have already bought tickets,” he said when asked about the expected turnout.

Among the models participating in the fashion show are this year’s National Carnival queen contestants; the reigning National Carnival, Jaycees and Carival queen Ms. Iantavian Queeley; Miss Caribbean World 2011 Sudeaka Francis; Miss Culture and Miss Culture Swimsuit queens Santonnya Mills and Sidamo Jones respectively; Miss Caribbean Culture Oneka McKoy and Mr. Kool 2011 Nadaski Percival.

“St. Kitts-Nevis is fortunate to have the reigning queens for most of the Caribbean/regional queen pageants,” the excited Jeffers commented.

A collaborative act with the Nevis Island Administration’s Ministry of Tourism would see the launch of the Ministry’s 2012 Miss Teen Hospitality Pageant contestants.

“In terms of designers, we have Riff Raff, Petal Designs, Sandra Bowrin, and we have Miss St. Lucia, the reigning queen, who’s going to be bringing some designs from St. Lucia so the fashion show is going to be exciting,” Mr. Jeffers explained.

“The St. Kitts Calypso tents have a huge following,” he added as the interview shifted to cover the logistics of the highly-anticipated calypso tent.

Among the calypsonians expected to perform during the “Grand Masters Calypso Tent”, as coined by Mr. Jeffers, are the reigning National Carnival and Culturama Calypso Monarchs, King Pungwa and King Hollywood respectively; and kings Astro, Iyatola and I-Soursop.

“It’s a Grand Masters Calypso Tent so it’s about 20 to 30 calypsonians,” he said.

Despite a small turnout at last year’s “Sugar Mas Comes to Nevis,” the young entrepreneur is confident the venue change together with the addition of a calypso tent and intense promotion would lead to a successful show.

“Last year it was the first so the turnout wasn’t what we were hoping for but this year it’s already sold-out to be honest. The difference is, last year it was staged in the [Cultural] Complex [whereas] this time it’s staged on the beach so we have boat traffic coming to Nevis,” Mr. Jeffers explained.

The televised interview ended as Jeffers recorded appreciation to the event’s sponsors: the National Carnival committee, Digicel, Carib Brewery and TDC.
